Numbering the Stars: Sleep

Every night, as I walk my dog, I like to number the stars. I think of each one as a special message of love from my Heavenly Father to me. And each night, I count an additional star for a blessing I’ve received that day.

Numbering the Stars: Sleep

It will not surprise anyone who knows me to hear that I’m grateful for sleep. I was the kid who asked “is it nap time yet?” so sleep and I have been good buddies for a long time.

Still, the peace of my cozy bed and snuggly pets feels even more welcoming than ever these days, as the weather cools here. By the time I go to bed the temperatures are in the fifties, which means I can cuddle with a nice warm blanket and still not have to turn on the heat! It’s such an income-appropriate novelty!!

Daily Record: Exhaustion

It’s nearly the weekend, which is good, because I’m all tuckered out. The problem with my job is that I love it, so at night, when I’d like to be sleeping, my brain entertains itself by going over and over the millions of things I can (and should) do to be a better teacher.

It’s true that teachers need to be paid more, but I wouldn’t mind taking my pay raise in the form of extra waking hours so that my brain could stop worrying about lesson plans and retests and lunch detentions…

In other news, the new copier and I have begun what I hope will be a long and committed relationship. He does things I never dreamed a copier could do, and he does them quickly and reliably. I think I’m in love. (Actually, since this is the first day of our relationship, I’m probably just infatuated, but either way I’m definitely over the old model.)

Daily Record: It’s the little things.

I’m so excited about this week at work! Know why? Two words: New. Stuff.

The new copier came today, complete with options I didn’t even know existed. It’s going to make life SO much easier!! And even better, on the very day I reached my copy quota– so I get to make extra copies this month until the new system is set up. 😀

And… very soon, I’m going to have a new work laptop! Huzzah!!

These may seem like small (though hugely expensive for the district) details, but technology is such an important part of the classroom; this is going to be so helpful!! (Besides that, there’s nothing like a new toy to inject some excitement into la vie quotidienne.)

In other news, my apartment is an experiment in chaos, my finances are so red they’re practically crimson, and I’m working on some gray hairs, but I’m choosing happiness. Joy is in the details, after all, and those details are techno-fabulous.

Numbering the Stars: Silent Prayers

Every night, as I walk my dog, I like to number the stars. I think of each one as a special message of love from my Heavenly Father to me. And each night, I count an additional star for a blessing I’ve received that day.

Numbering the Stars: Silent Prayers

I feel so much better about life today, on one of my silent prayer days. I committed this morning to take 3 second sanity breaks as needed. I breathe deeply and send up a silent “please”. Three seconds doesn’t really allow time for eloquence, but that doesn’t matter, because I know that Father can listen through my heart.

Numbering the Stars: General Conference

Each night during our walk, my dog Ozzie and I number the stars, and each star is like counting off a blessing or message from Father. I like to record them here.

Today, after a crummy day at school, I needed inspiration. I found it in this message. Enjoy.

Of Regrets and Resolutions, President Uchtdorf

I’m so thankful for the leaders of my Church and their regular messages of faith.

Happiness is a Way of Travel
This thought came to mind while listening to President Uchtdorf’s talk.

The One in Which I Was Commanded

I have a friend who writes a great blog called Something Undone. I’ve enjoyed reading it for many moons now, and one of the reasons for that is his dedication. He writes at least one post every day, even if that post is only a small, relatively routine update on the comings and goings of his little family.

Andrew’s blog, combined with multiple Priesthood blessings that have encouraged, urged, and finally, commanded me to keep a “daily record of my comings and goings” inspired this post, and the daily updates to follow. Because I’m a writer, and a rather verbose one at that, I plan to periodically add deeper, more engaging content as often as possible as well.
